CEDIA® is the global trade association representing the professional home integration community. The integration of smart technology is fast becoming the norm in households. Smart technology requires a proper framework at the very beginning stages of a project to ensure that services can be delivered efficiently and reliably, and this provides a business opportunity for forward-thinking electrical contractors who are open to venturing into a new market.
From CEDIA’s perspective, there will be plenty of opportunity for electrical contractors to learn new skills, stay on track with new technologies, and find out what’s happening in the world of residential home technology, including lighting control, home cinema, and networking. To understand this market in more depth, CEDIA would recommend that electrical contractors register for its Home Cinema Design Workshop that is taking place on 21st August and visit Integrate 2018, where CEDIA will be delivering a range of training courses.
Taking place at the Novotel Sydney Darling Square, the Home Cinema Design Workshop delivers a thorough insight into designing cinemas using standards-based engineering calculations. The course teaches the use of world-recognised standards when designing cinema rooms. The day is split into two sessions. The first session is in a classroom format exploring the necessary calculations for a high performing home cinema design, while the second sessions is spent working in groups to design a real-world cinema from a real client brief. Each group is required to deliver a full home cinema design including design calculations, plans, bill of materials and costings.
Integrate 2018, which is taking place at the ICC Sydney in Darling Harbour from 22nd – 24th August, is Australia’s premier AV and Integration trade show. Over the last 10 years, Integrate has provided industry professionals with the opportunity to discover the latest technologies, delve into critical training topics, and connect with peers.
This year, CEDIA will be providing visitors with access to 15 CEDIA training courses, focussing on topics such as Wireless Networking, Designing Ethernet Networks, Future Technology Trends, Sales Estimating and Proposals, and Wired, Wireless or Fibre: Understanding Bandwidth in 2018. Run by internationally recognised instructors, these training sessions are invaluable for any electrician who is looking to get into the home technology industry and those who want to ensure they keep up to date with industry certification.
CEDIA is offering training passes for the show — a one day pass, two day pass and three day pass. These passes provide you with unlimited access to all education sessions and access to the Networking Lounge.
Prices are as follows:
- One Day Pass: $140 + GST
- Two Day Pass: $240 + GST

We should state if they want to get 10% off the training passes they can contact Lauren about membership beforehand and that we will have a membership offer on at the show where they can get a free copy of the CEDIA Fundamentals of Electronic Systems Guide.
CEDIA will also have a presence on the show floor. Wendy Griffiths, Vice President Global Development at CEDIA, Giles Sutton, CEDIA Senior Vice President of Industry Engagement, and Lauren will be on booth A56 to provide visitors with information on CEDIA member, the benefits that membership offers, and details on the educational courses and resources that are available at the show.
