Prysmian Group's Energy and Carbon Reduction Strategy

In a strategic effort to reduce energy consumption and decrease the embedded carbon of its product lines, Prysmian Group has engaged Rana Environmental to project manage a comprehensive energy and carbon reduction strategy, characterised by two distinct components.

The first stage will see the completion of a detailed Level 2 Energy Audit via the Energy Saver Program, which attracts a 70% subsidised audit cost from the NSW Office of Environment & Heritage. Indeed, Prysmian represents the largest industrial site to be offered a subsidised energy audit since the Energy Saver Programs inception in 2009.

The secondary stage will involve the integration of outcomes of the energy audit process into a funding application to the $800 million Clean Technology Investment Program (CTIP).

Targeting hi-bay lighting, compressed air systems, voltage power optimisation, power factor correction and onsite nitrogen generation across Prysmian’s Liverpool and Cromer Plants, the strategy is estimated to reduce energy consumption by approximately 20%, equating to an annual cost saving in the order of one million dollars.

Rana Environmental is driving a similar initiative with A Plus Plastics and Tooling, a manufacturer of plastic injection moulded products designed for a variety of industries and applications, such as for the plastic componentry of Victa Lawnmowers.
