Overview
This component of the LEI course is conducted over a period of 4 days (32Hrs).
Topics include:

  • Electrical & Personal Safety.
  • AS/NZS3000, AS/NZS3008.1.1 & other relevant AS/NZS Standards.
  • Electricity Safety (Installations) Regulations.
  • Code of Practice Safe Electrical Work – Low Voltage Electrical Installations – 1997.
  • Voltage Drop.
  • Maximum Demand.
  • Selection of Cables.
  • Residual Current Devices (RCD’s).
  • Multiple Earthed Neutral (MEN) System of Earthing.
  • SELV, PELV & Earth Leakage current protection.
  • Protection against overload and short-circuit current.

Prerequisites
‘A Class’ electricians licence holder, qualified line-worker or professional electrical engineer.

Course Requirements
Please check the directory board at the skills centre entrance for the room allocation.  You will need to bring a pen, paper and calculator.  There is no parking available on site.  Catering will be provided.

You must wear substantial and robust footwear. Please do not wear open toed footwear or sleeveless shirts as this is against NECA Skills Centre's OH&S policy.

The following books are required on the first day of the course and can be purchased from the skills centre.

  • AS/NZS3000:2007 Wiring Rules.
  • AS/NZS3008.1.1:2009 Electrical Installations - Selection of Cables.
  • Electricity Safety (Installations) Regulations 1999 & Amendments.
  • Code of Practice for Safe Electrical Work 1997 (Low Voltage Electrical Installations).
