The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has just released the Telecommunications Cabling Provider Rules 2014 (2014 CPRs) to replace the 2000 edition.

The ACMA has advised BICSI that the 2014 CPRs have been registered on Comlaw and are now operational, and asked us to inform industry of this release.
The 2014 CPRs represent the consolidation of the following three instruments into a single instrument without any substantive changes to their regulatory requirements:
Telecommunications Cabling Provider Rules 2000;
Accreditation Procedures for Cabling Provider Registrars; and
Telecommunications Cabling Provider Rules 2000 – Arrangements for Operation of the Registration System (No. 3) (2012).
Earlier this year, the ACMA consulted with industry and the general public on its intent to update the Rules. BICSI South Pacific informed its members and its Registered Cablers of this intent, and encouraged members to review the draft Rules and comment where appropriate.
The CPRs require that cabling work must comply with the requirements of AS/CA S009:2013 Installation requirements for customer cabling (Wiring Rules); cabling providers must only use cabling products that are compliant with the Telecommunications Labelling (Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Notice 2001 (Telecommunications Labelling Notice); and all cabling work be performed or supervised by a Registered Cabling Provider.
The 65-page 2014 CPRs, as well as an accompanying 13-page Explanatory Statement, can be downloaded for free from www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2014L01684.
Alternatively, both documents can be purchased in hardcopy from www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2014L01684/CanPrint.
