Regulatory Compliance Mark on LED Lamps

Published: 4 July 2016 Category: Trade Talk

I have seen in a retail shop some new LED lamps and fixtures with the C-Tick mark instead of RCM mark on the labels. As far as I know the C-Tick mark is no longer available in Australia (since March 2016), is it correct? Can these products be legally supplied?

Regulatory Compliance Mark on LED Lamps

Answer provided by Alfonso, Technical Engineering Manager for EYE Lighting with experience in Europe and Australasia in lighting, electrical systems, energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Indeed, the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) replaces de C-Tick mark and all suppliers in Australia (manufacturers, importers or agents on their behalf) must use the RCM from the 1st of March 2016. But according to the ACMA regulatory arrangements, electrical or electronic devices labelled with the C-Tick mark before that date can continue to be supplied until stock is exhausted. They are not required to be re-labelled with the RCM.

To be precise, those LED lamps and fixtures you have seen should have been manufactured (and labelled) before March 2016. Any electrical or electronic device manufactured since then shall be labelled with the RCM mark before being supplied in the market.
