Starter Test: Camera Test: 4 OSRAM SubstiTUBE ®   |  Technical Data Check whether the luminaire in which the new lamp  should be used has a starter. If it has, you can replace  the conventional fluorescent tube with SubstiTUBE ®  Basic   and Value. If a functional T8 fluorescent lamp is still installed in the  luminaire you can also observe this through a digital  camera  ( e.g. on your smartphone or tablet ) . If the light  flickers, you need a SubstiTUBE ®  for operation on an EM  ballast. No flicker means an electronic ballast is present and the tubes will not be compatiable. OSRAM SubstiTUBE ®  Gen5  Compatibility Test To quickly find out whether you can upgrade your lighting with a suitable SubstiTUBE ®    product, you should first determine whether you require a lamp for operation  on a electro-magnetic ballast (EM).
